Studierendenwerk Hamburg is a public-law institution. For residents, the key question is which official route handles a particular matter. The wiki therefore does not reproduce an outdated organisation chart or names that can change.
| Your concern | Official first route | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Finding accommodation or understanding the application | Accommodation Advisory Centre (BeWo) or the online application | Advice or an application with Studierendenwerk |
| Offer, tenancy agreement, length of stay, notice or approval | Your residence management or the contact in your personal correspondence | Binding handling of the contractual matter |
| Ordinary repair | Tenant portal | Documented ticket and response |
| Urgent technical damage | Local on-call or contractor contact | Urgent technical coordination; the emergency services remain separate |
| Serious matter that remains stuck despite using the normal route | Head of the responsible housing department | Specialist line-management escalation or formally superior clarification |
| Personal, social or financial pressures | Select the appropriate official advice service | Specialist advice for the concern |
| Local participation | Student self-government | Participation, representation and community projects |
Studierendenwerk does more than act as landlord: it also provides advice, study finance, catering and other social services. Its official bodies are the Assembly of Representatives, Supervisory Board and Management Board:
These bodies are not normally the first contact for an individual housing case. Applications, agreements, damage and extensions use the designated specialist service. The committee structure explains institutional responsibility but does not replace the route for handling your case. 1)
Distinguish your university and Studierendenwerk
Your university may be responsible for your studies, enrolment or exchange programme, for example. It does not automatically decide on a Studierendenwerk tenancy agreement. A combined case may therefore require two separate documents or contact routes.
An old diagram does not reliably show changing responsibilities. Use the official pages for the current overall organisation:
Independent wiki
The Wohnanlagen-Wiki is not a Studierendenwerk Hamburg service. It explains routes and links to the official service for binding information.
